About This Competition

The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is the third stage of India's olympiad pipeline (after IOQM and RMO). Approximately 300 students, selected from regional rounds across ~30 regions, compete in this proof-based competition. The top ~50 performers are invited to the IMO Training Camp (IMOTC), from which India's 6-member IMO team is selected.

How to Prepare

Study Tips

Master Proof-Based Problem Solving

INMO requires complete, rigorous proofs. Practice writing formal proofs with clear logical flow for problems in algebra, geometry, number theory, and combinatorics.

Strategy

Quality Over Quantity in Solutions

With 6 problems in 4 hours, you won't solve them all. Focus on writing 2-3 complete, well-structured proofs rather than attempting all problems superficially.

Resources

Study 'Challenge and Thrill of Pre-College Mathematics'

This classic Indian book by Pranesachar et al. covers exactly the topics tested at INMO level. Supplement with past INMO papers and solutions from HBCSE.

Mindset

INMO Qualifiers Train for IMO

INMO awardees attend the IMO Training Camp. This intensive training with India's best mathematical minds is an invaluable experience regardless of IMO selection.
