About This Competition
The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is the first stage of India's mathematical olympiad program, organized by HBCSE. With over 100,000 participants, it serves as a massive funnel for identifying mathematical talent across India's diverse education landscape. Top performers advance to the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO).
How to Prepare
Cover the Indian Olympiad Syllabus
IOQM tests algebra, number theory, geometry, and combinatorics at a pre-olympiad level. Focus on topics from the HBCSE mathematical olympiad syllabus.
Manage the Multi-Mark Question Format
IOQM has questions worth 2, 3, and 5 marks. Start with 2-mark questions for quick points, then strategically invest time in 5-mark problems.
Use HBCSE Problem Primers and Past Papers
HBCSE's 'Mathematical Olympiad Primer' and 'Problem Primer for the Olympiad' are essential. Also work through past RMO and IOQM papers from olympiads.hbcse.tifr.res.in.
First Step to Representing India at IMO
IOQM is the first stage of India's IMO selection. Even if you don't qualify for the next round this year, the preparation strengthens your mathematical foundation.
