About This Competition

The UKMT Primary Kangaroo, launched in 2025, is the UK Mathematics Trust's first dedicated challenge for primary school students. Aimed at pupils aged 9-11 (Years 5 and 6), it brings UKMT's proven approach to mathematical enrichment to a younger audience.

The challenge consists of 20 multiple-choice questions designed to be accessible yet stimulating, encouraging mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills. Questions progress in difficulty, allowing students of all abilities to engage with the early questions while challenging the most able with later ones.

As the newest addition to the UKMT family of challenges, Primary Kangaroo creates a natural pathway into the Junior Mathematical Challenge for students entering secondary school. UKMT's challenges collectively reach over 700,000 students across the UK, making them the country's most widely participated mathematical enrichment activities.
